Hello Sara. I am doing very well. I hope you are too. I am extremely excited to be here in Victoria. I love the concept that I am able to visit & speak somewhere that one can only fly or take a boat to.
How long have you been sober?
I have not used drugs or alcohol since May 20th, 2001. This was my first step to get me where I am at today.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by anyone who has been through hell and finds a way to keep on fighting.
What are you afraid of?
Abandonment, diabetes, the police (not the band), spiders, and falling apart and being back in the gutter, sick on the street.
What is something that you do daily towards your personal growth?
Every single day I work hard to apply coping skills towards how I handle situations. I also mediate whenever possible.
How has the punk scene changed since the 90’s?
Punk was unacceptable when I was a kid. Dreadlocks, piercings, and wild haircuts were publicly frowned upon. Today it is much easier to be a punk rocker.
What are three healthy ways to calm yourself down when you are angry? (Question from your workbook, Better Days)
- Go for a walk 2. Give my cat, Max, a scrubbie 3. Put on music, or NPR and take a shower

One day, one hour, one minute, one second, one slip-second. Recovery is a choice. We get better!
